Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Quick answers to the things customers ask most, with the exact steps and the real nav paths you'll see in the CastHost Dashboard at dashboard.casthost.net. Most tasks live under the DJ and Statistics menus in the left sidebar.

A few things worth knowing up front: - The Dashboard has a Basic and an Advanced mode. Switch between them from the hamburger menu in the top-right corner. Some settings (relays and mount points) only appear in Advanced mode. - The top bar shows your live listener count ("X / max"), a Storage chip (click it for a breakdown of how your space is used), and a language selector (English, Español, Français). - New to the Dashboard? Open the Setup Wizard from the sidebar (or the "Getting Started" card on the Dashboard home) for a guided walk-through. It helps you pick your streaming path, add your music, and go live.

How do I add or upload music?

Your music lives in your station's media library and feeds AutoDJ.

  1. Go to DJ → Auto DJ in the sidebar.
  2. Open the Files tab and click Upload Files.
  3. Choose your audio files (MP3, AAC, and other common formats) and upload them.

Uploaded tracks land in All Files, where you can edit track metadata and trim the start and end with the waveform editor. For bulk uploads, the Auto DJ page also shows your FTP credentials.

How do I create and manage playlists?

  1. Go to DJ → Auto DJ and open the Playlists tab.
  2. Click Add Playlist and set: - Title: the name of the playlist. - Type: General Rotation for regular playback, or a scheduled type for specific time slots. - Playback order: Sequential or Shuffle. - Weight: a higher weight means the playlist is chosen more often.
  3. Save to create it.

To manage a playlist, find it in the list and open it: add or remove tracks, change the settings, and save. You can reorder the tracks within a playlist, enable or disable a playlist, and delete one you no longer need.

How do I schedule playlists?

Use the Scheduling Tool to control when playlists play across the day or week.

  1. Go to DJ → Auto DJ and open the Scheduling Tool tab.
  2. Click a slot on the calendar to add a schedule, then set the title, the playlist, and the start and end times.
  3. Save.

To edit or remove a schedule, click the event on the calendar and update it or remove it. Note that auto-created schedules are read-only.

How do I set up and schedule jingles?

  1. Go to DJ → Auto DJ and open the Jingles tab.
  2. Click Upload to add your jingle audio files.
  3. Create a jingle and set how often it plays (for example, after a number of songs or on an interval).
  4. Save.

To edit or delete a jingle later, find it in the list and choose Edit or Delete.

How do I add and manage DJ accounts?

Give each DJ or contributor their own login from the DJ Users page. It's its own page in the sidebar, not a tab inside Auto DJ.

  1. Go to DJ → Users.
  2. Click to add a user and fill in their name, username, and password.
  3. Set their permissions and any login restrictions, then save.

To change or remove an account, find the user in the list and choose Edit or Delete.

How do I see my listener statistics?

Open the Statistics menu in the sidebar.

  • Statistics → Live shows who's listening right now: a "Listeners Tuned Now" table (location, IP address, user agent, listen time), plus Current Top Countries and Current Top User Agents. Use the Refresh button to update it.
  • Statistics → Listeners shows historical data. Pick a date range (7, 14, or 30 days, or a custom range) to see Total Sessions, Unique Listeners, Total Listening Hours, average session time, a session-length breakdown, and country, client, and user-agent charts.
  • Statistics → Tracks shows your Top Tracks by playbacks and by airtime, and Best Performing Tracks over a date range.

How do I add a player or widget to my website?

  1. Go to Widgets in the sidebar.
  2. Pick a widget from the list. The options include: - Stream Details & Player: the all-in-one stream player. Choose a card or compact layout, dark or light theme, an accent colour, and toggle what's shown (album art, now playing, listener count, recent tracks, current show or DJ, up next, and more). - Stream Detail Elements: drop individual fields (song title, artist, listener count, status, and so on) anywhere on your page. - Recent Tracks, Schedule, Song Request Form, Chat Box, Web Player (a simple HTML5 player), and Custom Web Player (a branded player with your title, slogan, image, and colours).
  3. Adjust the options for your chosen widget and preview it.
  4. Copy the generated code and paste it into your website where you want it to appear.

How do I configure AutoDJ settings?

  1. Go to DJ → Auto DJ and open the Settings tab.
  2. Turn AutoDJ on or off, and adjust crossfade and other playback options.
  3. Save.

You can also Start, Stop, or Restart your streaming server directly from the Server Status panel at the top of the sidebar.

Why can't I connect my encoder to the stream?

Most connection problems come down to a few things. Check these first:

  1. Use the source password, not your admin or login password. Your connection details are on DJ → Encoders: Server Host (stream.casthost.net), DJ Encoder Port, Mount/Stream ID, Source Username (source), and Source Password, each with a copy button.
  2. Match the Server Type. Set your encoder to the Server Type shown on your Encoders page, and confirm the port and mount/stream path match exactly.
  3. Check your firewall or antivirus if the connection is being blocked.
  4. If you're still stuck, check Settings → Logs for the streaming, access, and error logs, or open a ticket with us and include a screenshot of your encoder settings.

For step-by-step encoder setup, the DJ → Encoders page has built-in guides for BUTT, Mixxx, and SAM Broadcaster, each with your settings pre-filled.

Can I broadcast live from my browser?

Yes. Go to DJ → Web Encoder to broadcast live straight from your browser, with no software to install. You can talk over the mic or play files, then return to AutoDJ when you're done.
